Smartbyte adware keeps reinstalling on Inspiron 3793

Hi,

I have just bought an Inspiron 3793 - the device is quite ok but it is really unreasonable that the bloatware "Smartbyte" keeps reinstalling after I have unindtslled it manually.

Usually I would keep "Dell Update" etc but under these circumstances I have to uninstall it so that the malware Smartbyte doesn't come back.

That is not a very professionell behavior not allowing customers to uninstall software they do not want to use.

And by the the way this software doe not offer any advantage at all - it  makes everything worse.

I want to keep Dell Update but get rid of "Smartbyte" - i s there any Solution for this?

regards

You may be infected with a Root Kit. That may be the reason for which the adware keeps on reinstalling.First, boot up in Safe Mode with Networking. To do so, follow these steps from Microsoft:

  1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
  2. Click the   Start  button, click the arrow next to the   Shut Down  button, and then click   Restart.

    1. Do one of the following:
    2. If your computer has a only 1 operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.

    • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

    1. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the Safe Mode with Networking, and then press Enter.

    2. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.

  •

  • Then,follow my steps:

    1.    Hover your mouse to the top right corner of the screen or slide left from the right side of the screen.
    2. Click/Tap 'Search' and look up 'Programs and Features'
    3. Open the app with the name 'Programs and Features' and uninstall ALL anti-malware,anti-spyware, etc programs.
    4. After done with uninstalling all of these, go to their web pages and install them once more.
    5. Run scans with them and kick 'em out of your system.
    6. Come here and wait for the download to finish.
    7. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and see if it finds anything.

Hope this helps! Hit me back with the results!

Hi SteDe:

If DELL-Cares can't offer a solution, try the following:

  1. From Windows Services (Control Panel | System and Security | Administrative Tools | Services), right-click on each SmartByte serivce, choose Properties, and change the Startup Type from Automatic to Disabled. Note that my Inspiron 5584 has two services related to my current SmartByte v3.1.940 application - the SmartByte Analytics Service and the SmartByte Network Service - see first image.
  2. Reboot and open Windows Services to confirm that the Status shows these SmartByte services are not  Running (i.e., that the services have stopped).
  3. Go to Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features and uninstall any program related to SmartByte (see second image).
  4. Go to Settings | Apps | Apps & Features and uninstall any remaining Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app associated with SmartByte. Note that my Inspiron 5584 has two UWP apps related to my current SmartByte v3.1.940 application - the SmartByte app and the SmartByte Drivers and Services app - see third image.
  5. Reboot and run Dell Update to see if it still offers any updates for SmartByte-related apps or drivers.  If it does, just uncheck the check box to decline the re-installation of SmartByte. The fourth image below was captured after a reset of my Inspiron 5584 to factory condition on 30-Aug-2020 and shows Dell Update offering to install the optional SmartByte application.

SMARTBYTE is not an Adware or Malware. This is a genuine application and Dell is pre installing it, However I haven't see one positive response for it. So remove it

You will have to remove it from 2 places.

Control panel > Program and features : Uninstall Smartbyte service.

Start > Settings > Apps > Apps and Features : Remove Store app version of Smartbyte.

Reboot
