USB C port for display?
Hey guys,
So I have a Dell Inspiron-7378 from 2017 and I currently have one monitor hooked up to the only HDMI port on the laptop. It also has a USB-C port and I'm wondering if that would support a USB-C to HDMI adapter so I could hook up a second display. Tried searching the internet for it but couldn't find any results. Anyone here have any idea if that will work?

Sorry but I cannot find the specific part number for the Adapter Cable.
You could try a "Dell Chat"

Unfortunately the information about this system is unclear when compared to information about systems with USB-C ports known to support video output. As @U2CAMEB4ME posted, that text does appear in the Setup and Specifications document, but it's not clear whether that text specifically means that this system supports those capabilities or whether it's referring to USB-C in general and is simply copy/pasted into the Setup and Specifications documents of systems that have USB-C ports. The reason I think the latter could be the case is that later in that same Setup and Specifications document, the "Ports and connectors" section just says "One USB Type-C port". On other systems that are capable of video output and/or USB PD, that section of the document usually says something like "Supports USB PD and DisplayPort video output", but this one doesn't. So like I said, it's unclear. Your best bet might be to hear from someone who has actually tried this with your specific system model.
And by the way, seeing DisplayPort output is enough to run a USB-C to HDMI cable. The reason DisplayPort is mentioned is because the USB-C port when capable of video output uses a standard called DisplayPort Alt Mode, so it always sends a DisplayPort signal out, but a USB-C to HDMI cable (or adapter) is designed to account for this, so those cables and adapters include an active chip that converts the DisplayPort signal from the system into an HDMI signal for the display you're using.

If the USB-C port has the "DP" logo for DisplayPort next to it, then it's definitely capable of video. But if it doesn't, that does NOT necessarily mean that it DOESN'T support it. Some systems have USB-C ports that don't have any markings but still support video. In that case, if you can't find anyone who's already tested this, then yes it might come down to just trying it for yourself, unfortunately. It would certainly be nice if the documentation was a bit more clear here.

@jphughan
I had seen that referenced before but can't remember where.
Maybe it was a previous post from you.
Is there any other way to determine if the port is video capable???
Or just rely on someone else with the exact model for verification that it is.
I hope it would not come down to just buying the adapter cable and hoping for the best???
Best regards,

Sorry to bug you again @jphughan
But do you think MSinfo32 would have that information???
When you say "DP" logo do you mean next to the port on the laptop.
For the moment the only ones I can find have the lighting bolt next to them???
Again sorry for bugging you and thanks for the help,
U2

I don't think MSInfo32 would have this. I doubt it because I don't think it shows the types of outputs available on GPU boards in desktop systems, for example, but I haven't looked. If you're looking at systems that have a lightning bolt logo, they probably support Thunderbolt 3. If you see that, then USB-C video output support is guaranteed because that's mandatory in the Thunderbolt 3 spec. But this system doesn't have Thunderbolt even as an option, as far as I can tell. But for example, the Latitude 7480 has optional Thunderbolt 3. If you order it with Thunderbolt 3, you'll have a lightning bolt icon next to the port. If you order it without Thunderbolt 3, then it still supports USB-C video output, and that port will have a DP logo next to it.
