Update Available: Update Pending won't download

Inspiron 5770

Inspiron 5770

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series. I have windows 10 Home 22h2 64 Bit. I have 3 Window updates that won't install and keeps reading pending update, even after hitting the update button. The 3 updates are: Dell, Inc. - Firmware - 0.1.10.0; Intel - SoftwareComponent - 1.41.2021.121; and Intel - SoftwareComponent - 1.63.1155.1. I have tried a lot of "solutions" and none are working. I have run one solution, that eliminates them temporarily, but when I run windows update again, they return and won't download. I have tried running Dell diagnostics, I have tried running Dell Update software. Those programs do not detect a problem and show my laptop is up-to-date.  I have went to Windows/Software Distribution and deleted files, etc, and nothing is working. Is there a folder in which they are hidden, that I can delete them? Is their a way to manual install? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Press the windowskey +r in the run box type msdt.exe -id WindowsUpdateDiagnostic  if the troubleshooter doesn't solve the issue open powershell and run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog command in that log look for errorcodes that give you a clue why it is not working if you don't understand post the errorcode .

You must log in as a user with administrator privileges to apply updates using the Dell Update and Alienware Update applications. Browse to Dell Drivers & Downloads website. Identify your Dell product. Click Download & Install SupportAssist to auto-detect your Dell product.

Running Dell Update says the System is Up-to-date.

I can copy and paste the log that was created but it rather lengthy. There were some fails, but no error codes.

Hello,

I got your windowsupdate logfile lines like this

2022/12/29 09:25:24.6895561 13280 8072 DownloadManager *FAILED* [80248007] Failed to get the update's metadata for update 9DFCEADC-E1C1-41A7-BA4B-CCCEDDA9C06B.200

I bolded the errorcode this code simply means windows update was unable to download the requested updates

  • Open a command prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow (sfc is short for system file checker)
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
  • if a repair is needed run this command (checkhealth and scanhealth will tell u)
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • after this is all done reboot and try to run windows update while doing that temporarly disable your antivirus and firewall just to see if that is causing the issue.

If you want to save some time as those DISM commands can take a while just disable your antivirus and firewall and try to run windows update .

Hello,

Another thing you can try is press the windowskey +r in the run box type "msdt.exe -id WindowsUpdateDiagnostic" this will run the windows update troubleshooter copy everything between the "" marks

Nothing worked, the files are still there. I believe as much as I hate to, I am going to have to "Reset the PC" and reinstall WIndows 10. All of this started because I updated to WIndows 11 and did not like it as it bogged down my laptop and I had to do a clean install of Windows 10 (after 10 day period rollback). If you should think of anything elsle, please let me know, if not, I do appreciate the suggestions. Happy New Year!
