User manual?

Where can I find a manual that describes the keyboard and external connectors of my Inspiron 7610?  When I poke around the support sites, I can only find long lists of URLs, most of them irrelevant or inapplicable.

@pwabrahams  If you go to the Dell Support site — www.Dell.com/support — and enter your product model or Service Tag, then click Documentstion, you should find what you need. That page for the Inspiron 7610 is here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/inspiron-16-7610-laptop/docs

Not so easy, unfortunately.  When I go to that page, I get an "access denied" message.  In addition, it seems that in order to locate the correct manual, I have to know if my particular machine has two or three fans.  And to know that, I have to open up the case.  Dell does provide a procedure for opening up the case, but it's hard to believe that I have to open the case just to et the manual!

It used to be that when you bought a computer it came with at least printed instructions on how to get started.  No more!

Welcome to the digital age.  If you go to top of this page and click on support in the blue banner, you get access denied?

Here @pwabrahams , below is a direct link to the PDF version of the Setup and Specifications document for your system model. I don’t know how to make it any easier, so hopefully this works for you:

@pwabrahams  I didn’t notice the different service manuals based on number of fans. That is the first time I’ve ever seen that on a Dell system, or any other. But the Service Manual does provide a procedure for opening the system, in fact it shows how to remove and reinstall every component of the system. And even though there are separate Service Manuals for those two system variants, there’s only one Setup and Specifications document, which is where you’d find the info you’re after.

I also don’t understand how you could have gotten an access denied error AND somehow seen the difference in fan count, which seems to imply you accessed the page. Maybe you tried to access resources while Dell and everybody else on the Internet was remediating the Log4J vulnerability, and that’s why you had trouble? Anyhow, the link I posted above works as of this writing, the sole Setup and Specifications document should have what you want, and opening the case isn’t difficult even if you needed to.
