Uninstall the drivers and reinstall them or update them from the link below. You can also Uninstalling Checkpoint VPN client and rebooting has resolved the issue for others.

Kkr3412,

Make sure you are not using a wireless switch on the laptop to turn on the wifi.

Windows 8 added an airplane mode for WiFi connections. Check to make sure it's not enabled by going to the desktop and left clicking on the network symbol next to the clock.

Another thing to check is that your network adapter is not disabled. Right click on the same icon next to the clock > open network and sharing center > click change adapter settings > right click on your adapter and make sure its not disabled.

To resolve the red x on the wifi follow the steps below.

Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> On the left, Change Adapter settings. Make sure your wireless adapter is enabled by right clicking and selecting enable.
