Hi Guys,

Thank you for the replies, but I ended up calling support.  I was told NOT to download the dell OS recovery tool and instead go here:

http://dell.com/keyinthecloud

This worked easily, as one would expect.

Cheers.

I ended up calling Dell again.  I was told this time that they do not have a Windows 7 image and that they were not available.

Next, I called Microsoft and in under 5 minutes I had a direct download of a 64 bit Windows 7 ISO.

Hi All,

After installing & running the recovery tool I entered my service tag and receive the following error:

"No OS images defined for this product."

Any ideas?  I'm certain I entered my service tag correctly.

For what I need it for, Win 7 is fine, so please no feedback on this.

Thank you.

Most Inspirons don't have OS images to download.

At this point, you might as well install Windows 10 which you can still activate for free.

It might help if you give us the full model number on your system.  Do not expose your Service Tag.

But images seem to be present for some systems and not others.  Especially if your current OS is not the one  originally shipped with system.

You can Download Windows 10 From Microsoft. Windows 10 will activate with your Windows 7 OEM Product Key. More details here:

Welcome to the Dell Community  @Sunny2020

For a clean Windows 10 install:

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 16 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

Select Download tool now, and select Run. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.

On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.

Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10.

Select which media you want to use:

USB flash drive.

Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 16GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Best regards,

U2

After downloading, I ran the program from the icon on my desktop. I am being presented with a screen that displays: IDS_Title IDS_DISK_TO_USE with a dropdown that has two duplicate items: IDS_DISK_DESC IDS_DISK_DESC Followed by a button that reads "IDS_START" Removing my USB key I can see that one of the items dissapears. Which one though - it's a mystery. After googling I can see that I am now the only one who has had this issue. Dell, why is this so difficult to download my software? This was so easy when the O/S shipped with a CD/DVD. On and on and on...

well the Windows 7 ISO downloads from Microsoft are only available to those who have purchased a full retail version of Windows 7 (a retail key has to be entered on the MS site as it won't work with OEM keys).  I downloaded one several years ago from MS.

Welcome to the Dell Community,

I think you can still download an original W7 ISO from here.

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-downl...

Click on “Windows-ISO-Downloader.exe”

Open after it downloads.

Then click on the window behind the ad.

Select Dell and your model then download.

You can also download W7 and all the other software listed.

Best regards,

U2
