Hi 

I want to upgrade RAM for my laptop i.e. DELL INSPIRON  5520 i5 for 1 slot i have RAM of 4 gb now i want to insert 8gb RAM in the other slot. Can you confirm me if i can use total 12gb(4gb in 1st slot and 8gb in 2nd slot) of RAM in my laptop.

Yes -- and because of the age of this system, it uses DDR3L memory -- be careful to buy RAM certified to work.  DDR3L memory has evolved in the decade since this system was new -- there are memory chips (and the modules that are made from them) that will have compatibility issues with this model.
