This worked for me. I ran into this problem after not using my computer in a while. Thank you! I spent a couple hours troubleshooting and the solution was something as simple as this. #2020
Well i simply not getting it, how it could perfectly run mid-March, and then now end of April when running it again it got stuck at Preparing to run Hardware test. I restarted the Dell Hardware service, didn't change a thing, all that work was to reinstall (Uninstall then reinstall) Dell SupportAssist (I also use IOBit Uninstaller Pro, and actually used their Powerful Uninstallation in order to be sure there is no leftover).
I have the same problem with my in-warranty Dell desktop. I've done the prescribed procedure twice, a couple weeks apart, to no avail. What else can I do?
