DP4400: How to avoid known NTP issue which causes a deployment failure

One of the reasons why a deployment could fail is NTP issue.

  •  If the time difference between ESXi & vCenter Servers is >5 minutes, then the roll-out (deployments) wizard can hung (at 14% )and prevent the successful deployment of the appliance.

This KB serves as a guide to prevent a known DP4400 failure during deployment.

These actions need to be taken BEFORE committing the DP4400 deployment from the Appliance Configuration Manager (ACM). This KB should be followed BEFORE deploying the DP4400.

Adding some additional info here:

Similar time difference issues can occur on DP5x/8x Deployments also.

A sample issue just seen today is below:

The below KB is Internal only but you can refer to it if communicating with Support for help:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000190170/time-difference-between-ntp-and-idpa-components

Basically, you can manually set the times in each esxi GUI to match what you think the NTP server time is- within a couple minutes. Then since the box is checked by default for the VM to sync time with the host, the acm and vcsa etc should auto sync to the hosts- so really only the esx hosts should need to sync directly w NTP. If needed, can also manually set the time on a physical Av or DD if getting similar messages about those. That should allow the Deployment to move past the initial Net config stage.

See the below link for many more Deployment issues/answers:

We welcome questions and contributions from all.

If you found this useful please give KUDOS to help others find the information also.

thanks
