ESRS for Isilon Cluster

I am not aware of any real advantages or disadvantages to using the system subnet over some kind of management subnet other than you are reducing traffic on those subnets. I am not sure it is a best practice but certainly a good practice to separate some of your management items from general workflow.

things that I know you need to keep in mind when configuring ESRS to work as intended.

until Riptide (OneFS 8.0) you are only able to specify a subnet in configuration and not subnet plus pool so It has to be a static pool and be the first pool in the list otherwise the IP addresses in ESRS will automatically get changed to whatever pool is first in the list of pools, the result of that is that support would not be able to remote into the box for things like log gathers. automatic log gathers would still work outgoing only our ability to get access to remotely pull them or perform a remote upgrade via our RCM team would be affected by this.

I hope that makes sense, we do also have a specific team dedicated to ESRS as it is used with all or most EMC products for remote dial home functionality.

The ESRS team may have other details or caveats I am not aware of as I am part of the Isilon team so it may be worth opening a chat with them I have posted a few helpful links below.
