IIQ Client Bandwidth Export

Team,

We're trying to pull data out of IIQ via command line to get bandwidth by client usage. Ideally we'd like to get all In bound traffic based on a set of clients but based on the available data modules and filter logic, we can only do it by either client OR direction (not both). When we looked at trying to pull by client, however, it returns all 0's. We know for a fact that these clients are generating load. And we also know that these IPs are in IIQ because if it wasn't a valid IP it returns "data not found across selected time range". Is this expected behavior for ext_net data module? Appears that we have to use client IP address as well as part of the filter (short/long names not supported).

Our specific command is:

iiq_data_export export -d ext_net -f -p ./OUTPUT -x -c CLUSTER_NAME -r client:CLIENT_IP

Any help would be appreciated!

We're on IIQ v3.0.0.036

Thanks!

Hello ryan.clair,

Thank yo for your question! The client specific breakouts in InsightIQ 3.0.0 are known to not function properly. This issue was addressed in InsightIQ 3.0.1. You can view information about this in the following KB article:

https://support.emc.com/kb/186890

This article does require a log in to EMC Support but is also customer facing. If you would like to know more about how to gather this information directly from the cluster live using isi statistics, I would recommend reaching out to professional services for your scripting needs.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you!

Additionally if you do consider upgrading InsightIQ to fix this incorrect query, I would suggest moving to IIQ 3.2.1 (the latest release).  Given what you're doing it has a number of features that you would probably find beneficial.

Patrick Kreuch has a great (and somewhat funny) blog post on the changes here on the Isilon knowledge blog:
