1720 Screen Resolution changes by itself on restart!!

i just received amy inspiron 1720 with wuxga screen, vista home, and nvidia geforce 8600gt...everytime i reboot the screen resolution starts out fine and then reverts to 1024x768 and i have to go in and change it...any ideas why this happnes...its really annoying...thanks in advance

ageezee, thank you for bringing your question to DCF. 1024x768 is the default resolution size for Windows' native graphics drivers so hopefully a quick update will get this fixed for you. The system recognizes the drivers, but only after you force it to. Give this driver< ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
a shot and see if it helps.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with a Inspiron 1720/8600M GT. The problem started when i plugged in an external LCD and set it to 1280x1024. Now, when I reboot or come out of standby, the laptop panel resolution changes to 1280x1024. During bootup, the resolution *is* initially 1920x1200, stays at 1920x1200 during bootup, windows login and for a few seconds post login after the windows desktop displays. Then, the laptop panel flashes black and the resolution changes to 1280x1024. The desktop wallpaper on the 2nd monitor stretches vertically also. The Nvidia drivers *are* loaded. I have bios version A00, vista business 32bit, Nvidia driver version 101.43. Cheers, Tim.

Give this a shot and see if it helps. Right click on the desktop and choose "Properties" and then "Settings." Click on the primary display and then click "Advanced." Now click on the "Monitor" tab and see how many monitors it lists here. If you see a "Plug and Play" or any other monitor other then "Default Monitor" select it and click "Properties" and then "Driver" and then "Uninstall." Save the changes and repeat this process if a secondary monitor is listed in the Display properties box, but this time there should be only one monitor listed (instead of Default and Plug and Play) which you need to uninstall the driver for. When you're done, save the settings and reboot the machine.
