800mhz memory for XPS M1530

HELP!!!  I have a Dell XPS M1530 that I purchased a year ago. It has 4gb of 667mhz RAM. I recently upgraded the operating system to Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I wanted to take advantage of Vista 64's ability to use more than 4gb of RAM. I ordered 8gb of 800mhz RAM from Dell. The upgrade page for my laptop said 800mhz memory is compatible with my computer. However, when I installed the memory, the system recognized the increase from 4gb to 8gb, but the memory speed remained at 667.

What, if aything, can I do to make the laptop use the memory at the 800mhz speed? I'm afraid I will have to return the memory if I cannot get it to work properly.

The 1530 uses a chipset incapable of running RAM at 800 MHz - 667 is as fast as RAM will run.

Only the newer Montevina-chipset systems (the ones that support 1066 MHz bus CPUs) have an 800 MHz memory bus - nothing that uses the older chipset that the M1530 does, will.

Hi Bob, I've just upgraded my M1530 with Windows 7 x64 - so I also wanted to get 8GB in total but Dell states that 4GB is the Maximum.
Can you confirm that it works well in your laptop? I suppose if your 800MHz memory runs at 667 it's not a big issue - as long as you have the quantity (i.e. 8GB) then the speed is not a massive issue?

Did you get a different type of memory since? based on your comment (cannot go faster thann 667) I'm thinking of getting 2 of these: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT51264AA667  So you recommend anything else?

Thank you in advance for you help.
