AC Adapter not working
I have an Inspiron 1100 and the AC adapter doesn't work anymore. For the past 5 months or so it would stop working for a while but then come to life. But then last week it stopped completely. I figured out that if I jiggled the connection of the power chord it would work so I don't think the problem is the AC adapter but rather the power chord (which has now stopped working). So maybe the wire inside is frayed or something like that. Is there any way to buy just a power chord, or do I necessarily need to buy a new AC adapter?

If it's the AC side of the adapter that's faulty (between the wall and brick) then yes, the cord can be replaced. If it's the DC side (between the brick and computer), then no, the cable can't be replaced. In fact it's much more likely the jack is damaged than the plug on the adapter - in which case you will need a mainboard repair or replacement. Try a new adapter first though - at $30-40, it's far cheaper than a board repair ($150-200) or replacement ($400-500).

Try parts-people.com - they should have the AC cord.

I'm jumping into this thread but it appears to be just what I need. I have this exact same issue with my Inspiron 6000 except I'm 98% certain it's the DC side where my issue is. The cord is very loose in the plug and even when jiggled around won't connect much and if it does it will only last about 3-5 minutes as long as all the stars are aligned perfectly. Where/how can I get a board repair for my laptop (it's extremely out of warranty) or do I need to get a full motherboard replacement?
I apologize in advance for my lack of hardware knowledge/verbage.
