AC and battery power indicator

I've just gotten a new Dell N5050.  I don't understand the battery or power indicator.  I've been plugged into AC most of the time.  And at first it said the battery was charged at 100 percent.   But now the battery indicator is telling me how many hours are left and the battery is down to 58 percent.  I can't find any way of verifying that I'm on AC.  I'm plugged into an outlet with the power cord.

Why would the battery keep going down in percentage?  I don't see it re-charging.  Is it possible that the battery is being used instead of AC power?

I realized what I'd done.  The AC stick I use was off!  So now I see the plug indicator on the computer.   It's recharging now and everything's fine.  Was doing some furniture moving and changed my lamp plug-in so I thought the power stick was on.
