ALPS Touchpad Driver and Windows XP

Hey!

I have an I3800 that I just loaded Windows XP Pro on. I downloaded the ALPS Touchpad drivers for XP from Dell and tried to install them.

After InstallShield loaded, I got two messages:

SetupDiRegistryProperty
Code = 0x0000000d

ALPS Touchpad Driver
Failed to Init Inf: 00000000

How to I fix this and get this driver installed?

Thanks!

If you have any antivirus software installed, disable that software, then try reinstalling the cursor driver.

I do not have any anti-virus software installed on the system.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Did you install any of the Microsoft Operating System updates? If so, you may need to remove them and then reinstall the latest touchpad driver for your system.

I uninstalled the Windows XP updates, and was able to install the drivers. Thank you!

Why, though, would Windows Updates prevent installing the touchpad drivers?

Those updates are not validated for use on all systems, and in some cases can interfere with certain hardware drivers.

Okay and now the correct answer is:

For All of You that try to install the ALPS Touchpad Driver using Windows XP Sp1 and or Sp2 included or afterwards installed....

should redirect the path to the location where the Dell Driver Install Wizzard extracts the driver INF Files to.
For example: c:\dell\drivers\alps_a06\

That's it. You only have to reboot the Notebook and your're done.
