Adapter fails to insert completely

My son has a Dell Inspiron 5558 that I purchased less than two years ago.. About two months ago, my son noticed that the power adapter wouldn't completely plug into the side of the laptop. It will supply power to the laptop, but won't charge the battery. I don't want to force the adapter into the side and cause damage. Any ideas?

Check to see which part (the plug on the adapter or the jack in the system) is damaged -- and replace the adapter or the jack:

accordingly.

Thank you for your message.

Have you tried connecting another adapter & has that worked?  If another adapter has worked, you will need to get the ac adapter replaced.

If another ac adapter does not fit in, you will need to get the DC in port replaced (part # KD4T9)
