Adding Ram to Inspiron 2650
I purchase 256 mg of ram and want to install it in my laptop. Using the owners manual I found the factory installed ram stick but cannot find where to put the new one. Can someone provide directions.
Thanks, Tim

tim,
if you go to dell support and find service manual, it will show you where the two ram chips go. some are in two different places. some are kind of stacked on top of each other at a slight angle.

i looked it up and it looks like you only have one module on that computer, you may can only replace existing module with larger one
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins2600/en/sm_en/upgrades.htm#999869
it shows only one module
you may have to return the 256 and purchase larger module.

according to the specs on the dell site it has one slot max with 512 max.
see link below
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
I dont have one i just looked it up
Memory
Architecture:
Inspiron 2650
DDR200 3.3V DDR
Inspiron 2600
PC133 SDRAM
Memory module connector
one user-accessible SODIMM sockets
Memory module capacities
128 and 256 MB
Memory type
3.3-V SODIMM
Standard memory
128 MB
Maximum memory
512 MB
i guess it says there is one user accesible slot. You are probably right about the two slots. I have been wrong before.

This model has two memory sockets - each will take up to a 256 M PC2100 soDIMM. One of hte modules is under the door at the bottom of the system, and the other is under the keyboard.

Ejn, thanks for the information. I went to the address you gave me and its the same as my owners manual but it does not show the second location. Assuming its under the key board I cannot find directions to remove the keyboard. I went thru the manual several times. Keeping in mind that I am a computer idiot can you give me or direct me to directions on how to remove the keyboard?
Thanks, Tim

They deal with an XPS M1730, specifically... but I suspect the procedure for removing the keyboard on an XPS M1530 is exactly the same?
So have a look at the various instructional/user videos linked to here.
Videos 6 + 7 deal with replacing/upgrading the graphics card(s), and involve removing the keyboard, so those are the ones you need to watch ;)
