Adding SSD Hard Drive to DELL Inspiron 1564

Hi Dell's Member

I have a DELL Inspiron 1564 and now I am thinking about adding an SSD to speed up it.

I found some guides on internet that they remove the DVD Drive and insert an SSD there with a base device (not sure what is its name, the base works like a HDD base, they put the SSD on the base).

So, should I do it too? and where should the HDD for Operating System connect to? To official HDD port or on DVD Drive port? Are they different in speed for these ports?

I am really want to speed my machine up. It got 8GB RAM already.

Yes, since for any conventional hard drive, the limiting factor is the rotational speed - no single hard drive can come anywhere near delivering 3G/s to the interface.

You won't get the best performance unless you replace the existing hard drive with the SSD (the optical drive adapter will run at half the speed and cannot be used as a boot device).

Hi ejn63,

In that case, if I put the old HDD into optical drive's port to work as data drive, is it kept speed as in the official HDD's port?

Thanks
