Alienware m15x audio port issue
My computer is an Alienware m15x. When I have headphones or speakers plugged in the audio port will randomly cut in and out, the best description I have is it bounces between what is plugged into the audio port and the internal speakers. The only way I've found to fix the problem is to restart the computer. I have updated the audio drivers numerous times but it never solves the problem. It seems to happen more frequently while playing certain games and using voice chat programs such as Ventrilo or Skype. In fact anytime I open Skype it will trigger it, as if something to do with my microphone being turned on is causing the audio port to temporarily short out. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi pariaH.,
Welcome to the community.
Please check a different headphone or speaker on the system. Also, let us know if you have checked these headphones on a different system.
Kindly check the port if it is loose as it seems headphone port might require replacement for this issue.
Please perform these steps and let us know the results, so we can advise you further.
Thanks and Regards

I have used this headset and a previous one on another machine, along with the speakers, with no problems. The audio port doesn't seem loose but unfortunately without opening it I can't really tell. As far as I can tell it's onboard sound so replacing the audio port would require replacing the entire motherboard, if I'm correct. My warranty is also up so if that is the only solution I will just have to deal with the problem. If you have any other ideas, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise thanks for the help.

Hi pariaH,
I appreciate the time and effort that you took to troubleshoot the issue. It seems like an issue with the audio port itself. Audio ports is I/O board( not on motherboard) which can be replaced.
However, if you wish you can try reseating the I/O port cable which would help you resolve this issue. Please check the manual below where you can find instructions for I/O board removal:
If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.
Thanks and Regards
