Alps Mouse Driver with AutoCad

I just got a new D800 laptop, of course it has the Alps driver for the touch pad, and when I dock, I have a Logitech wheel mouse. Before I was able to use the wheel to ZOOM in and OUT in AutoCad 2004. This setting came from the mouse driver in the windows control panel. The old laptop (C600) has a setting to set the wheel to "Office Compatible Wheel". The new Alps driver does not have this setting. Hence, the wheel does not ZOOM in and OUT when using AutoCad 2004. It only pans the screen up and down.

See this tech note for a reference:

So my question is, what driver can I replace the Alps one with to allow my Logitech wheel to work like it’s suppose to in AutoCAD? Has anyone else got a fix for this Alps driver problem?

Also having the same problem.  We have (4) new Latitude M60's in our office all running on XP.  The fact that this driver problem is not yet resolve is very disturbing considering that the middle button ZOOM capability is probably the most commonly used feature in AutoCAD.  Just an estimate but I'd say it is used several hundred if not thousand times a day depending on the type of drafting you do.  Taking this functionality away is enough to make a user go nuts!  So far I am impressed with the performance of this laptop as it is the only one I've seen that can handle large drawings with ease, but the fact that it cannot accomodate the ZOOM function of the middle button, I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone who plans on using it for CAD.  Hopefully Dell will take notice of this and issue a new driver in the near future.

I never wait on support.

So I figured this problem out myself.

I went into System, Device Hardware. Clicked on the mouse. Then changed DRIVER. I changed my Alps driver to a "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" driver. It complained about not being the right driver yada yada yada...whatever just do it anyway.

I rebooted and everything appeared normal. I tried the touch pad and it works, and the stick mouse works too. Plugged the USB logitech in the side USB, it works too...SWEET I said...

When into AutoCAD...now the wheel ZOOMs.....Give it a shot see if you can get it to work too.

Basically DUMP the Alps driver...

You can do that with the apls driver. on the general tab under whell funtions select the setting button. In there you can select the "Office Compatible mode".

I do agree the APLs driver $ucks, the only problem i have with it is, if the D600 is docked and in am using a PS2 mouse pluged into the docking station, If i put the PC into standby when it comes out of standby the PS2 mouse don't work and the PC thinks i am using the touchpad as that is what is displayed in the mouse propoties even though it displayed a PS2 mouse be for i wnet into standby. This happen evens when the lid is closed on the PC as the monitor stand will not let open the lid when docked. The driver should be looking at the BIOS and see i am docked and also looking at the lid switch and see the lid is not open and then, knowing that, it should not disregred the PS2 docking station port and setup the touchpad that i can't use as the lid is closed. So i have to either reboot or go in and out of hibarnation to get the mouse back.
