Any basis for decreased performance with Hyper Threading?

I've just been reading some suggestions from a forum saying that if one disables HT in BIOS, better performance might be obtained (at least for the game Flight Simulator 2004). Does HT actually decrease performance/affect non-compatible software?

Thanks Matt, would you happen to know under what circumstances will HT decrease performance? Are there known software/software types that don't work well with HT algorithms?

HT will not significantly decrease performance for the VAST majority of software.

Software that simply assumes that a SMP system will get double the performance, and make assumptions based on that will likely experience decreased performance under HT. HT really helps with scheduling, so any single threaded app, or apps with a primary thread and 1 or 2 secondary, minor threadds (like games) will experience an increase.

There are VERY FEW apps that experience a decrease.

ars technica has a pretty good overview of hyperthreading and will have probably more than you ever wanted to know....
