Anyone ever had to change their administrator password? I NEED HELP with mine!
hey everyone
my keyboard malfunctioned in March - I have since been on the phone with Dell at least once a week, and nothing was being done. Finally a guy gave in and sent me a new keyboard last week. I replaced it, and it actually works! Now however, the first time I spoke with a Dell Tech, he told me to change my administrator password. When I would hit the 'd' key i was actually typing 'jgyah' or something to that affect. So now I have no freakin idea what my admin password is - and I've just been on the phone for about an hour, restarting - removing the battery - trying to reboot and all that jazz. It still isn't working. Is there any way at all I can change this password without having to sit on the phone attempting to understand someone for another 5 hours?! She is calling back "after further researching" my problem. I am extremely frustrated. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about a Windows password, or a security (BIOS or hard drive) password?

no need to be so rude Ed C.
I've talked to Dell a billion times, and as I said - I'm currently waiting on one to call me back.
My mistake, I thought forums were for help.

Lindsey.
Ed wasn't being rude. He was following the forum rules. Forum users are forbidden from assisting others in circumventing password protection. Your only recourse is to call Dell technical support - they can provide you with a password that will unlock your machine providing you can prove that you are the owner of the laptop.

it's called the administrator password. i guess it isnt really used in home comps. right after the comp boots a screen comes up asking for the administrator password. without it, i can't even reboot XP.

well then i am sorry. after posting, i looked up old posts concerning this issue and they all got responses.
dell tech support is doing nothing for me. i've been sitting here hitting f8, f2, and f12 for an hour now and getting no where. i have even tried re-installing XP.

Dell's BIOS password security is very strong and there is NO way to get around it that I know of and personally like it like that. For my own satisfaction I have tried many of the so called steps listed from links of a google search and none of them have worked on my i8200 or my C610. Now I have never tried any of the things were you have to PAY a lot of money and send in something nor would I. I would just call dell.
If you are registered with Dell as the owner then they will help you but you'll have to jump through the Dell hoops.
Good luck on hold.

Good news!
A dell tech guy is coming to replace the whole system on Monday.
I am sorry if I ended up being rather rude as well - I have been so fed up with Dell lately, and really need the laptop back before school starts up again.
Thank you all for responding, hopefully they can fix this thing!
