BIOS Password on Dell Inspiron 15-3521

Well... I know no one will believe me but... I am a digital forensics examiner a few miles from the Dell HQ in Round Rock and I have an Inspiron 15-3521 that belongs to a missing teenager and it is locked with a BIOS password. From what I see on the net it may no longer be possible to get to the Motherboard and jump out the BIOS password. Is that true?Must one find the chip itself and jump out a couple of pins? Is there any way short of an expensive and time consuming court order to get rid of that password?

This kid is in danger. He is with much older people who lured him away and we need to find him.

Thank you,

Mike Adams

Have the police contact Dell - simple solution.

Thank you for the suggestion but according to the police exigent circumstances do not apply. It is never simple in these cases.

If it's the data on the hard drive you need, remove the drive and attach it to a working system  - you can easily read the data on the drive.

If the hard drive has a password on it though, this won't be possible - you will need to send the driv e to a data recovery service to have the password removed.  Though Dell can unlock a BIOS by generating a master password, this won't remove any hard drive password - for that, you'll need a specialist's tools to access and remove the password.
