BIOS Update/SMBIOS

I was trying to update my BIOS, however, got a message indicating I cannot update without A10.  When i tried A10 update, I got a message indicating that 'An incompatible SMBIOS (system information) table was found in memory.  If the system should be supported by this flash application, please reboot and try again.  If this error recurs, please contact technical help.'  Now what?  Any suggestions or what to do next will be greatly appreciated.

I decided to just start all over.  I turned off the computer and went to the downloads page (downloads.dell.com/publilshed/pages/latitude-e5410.html) and found the BIOS updates...updated to A10 (successfully), then skipped to A16 and now everything seems to be working....not sure why the problems initially, but hopefully this might help someone else.

I guess I need to carefully examine the entire update page to see what else I may need to update.

Thanks for your help.

It is a Latitude 5410, purchased in late 2010.  The current BIOS is A09, 1/28/2011.  SMBIOS 2.6

Hi mcd111,

I would be happy to look into this for you. Could you provide the model of your system / the BIOS version currently installed?

Thanks mcd111,

Was this the site you used to download the A10 BIOS returning an error code?

Dell FTP: http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/latitude-e5410.html

If not i would suggest first attempting to download and install the A10 listing here. Making sure to right-click run as administrator / if the system has a BIOS level password you should be prompted to use this through the update.

If this was the site you have already used then i recommend first re-installing A09, then updating to A10 again, in-case the currently installed BIOS has become corrupt.
