BIOS doesn't update (no error)
Hi,
I got a Dell Latitude E6530. The system is completely up-to-date except for the BIOS. "Analyze my system for updates" from the Dell website shows that "Dell Latitude E6530 System BIOS A11" is available (current is A09).
The downloaded executable (E6530A11.exe) runs fine, restarts the computer but on startup no BIOS flashing starts. The OS is starting fine with no error messages and that's it.
Does anyone know why the flashing doesn't start?

Hi thorstenk,
Ideally, Once the BIOS update completes, the computer would restart automatically.
You can check the version of BIOS in BIOS. Restart the computer and tap F2 at Dell logo. Now check for the BIOS version.
If the BIOS version is A09,try updating BIOS by following below mentioned steps:
Installation Instructions for the Universal (Windows/ DOS) format
Download file to Desktop
The file E6530A11.exe is using the Universal (Windows/ DOS) format and is designed to be directly executed from Windows environment.
NOTE: Shut down all other applications prior to running the BIOS update utility. The update utility reboots your system in order to get the new BIOS loaded.
Run the BIOS update utility from Windows environment
Double click the Icon on your desktop labeled E6530A11.exe.The Dell BIOS Flash window appears
Click the Continue button. The message Pressing OK will close all applications, shut down Windows, Flash the BIOS, then reboot. appears.
Click the OK button. The system will restart and the BIOS Flash will be completed.
Run the BIOS update utility from DOS environment (Non-Windows users)
NOTE: You will need to provide a bootable DOS USB key. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
Awaiting your response!

Hi thorstenk,
Does it happen with all executable file?
Let’s manually update BIOS on the computer.
Click the link below to download and install BIOS on the computer:
http://dell.to/190Vaa5
Note: Plug your computer to a good, working wall jack before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
Awaiting your response!

It does not happen with "all executable files", only with the BIOS upgrade to A11. The "manual update" you are suggesting is exactly what I've already done and described in my posting.

Hi, I have the same problem since about one year (since 2013). I once in a while tried to update the bios of my Dell Latitude E6530 (win7), and: no chance!
I tried it with a bootable USB key, or from within windows, as it is described in the posts here above or in the dell support text. It does not work either.
The bios updater does what it is presumed to do, then the computer restarts, and the bios is the same old one (A09 or so), instead of the A16 that I am trying to install. I also tried the other bios versions available online (A11, A12) but all do the same thing.
I hope there is some solution.
Thank you in advance!

I have the same situation with Dell Latitude E5530. Have tried from Win 7 and USB DOS. The utility completes without error but after rebooting, the BIOS remains at A09.
Let me know if you have solved this without reimaging.
