Georgia Coffey,

Most models have a setting on the keyboard that you press a button, mine is F6 and has 3 settings.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time. This should bring up the Windows mobility center.

Click on the little square that says, keyboard brightness on.

You should see these settings or similar settings.

Did that before I posted and it is setup to work but doesn't.  I just need to find out if anyone else had this problem and if it was a simple fix. The last tech got it back when the new motherboard was installed.  If it is just a connection, I can do that but I was just attempting to see any other possibilities.  Thanks.

Georgia Coffey,

You can try reinstalling Dell QuickSet Application for your system.

The backlit keyboard has a little copper colored wire that goes from the keyboard to the motherboard. The connector may have come loose. On some systems, it can be tedious to connect. Page 45 in the Dell XPS L502x Service Manual.
