Battery Error Inspiron 1525

The battery on my laptop wont charge and i am thoroughly confused. It runs fine when plugged into the AC Adapter but the battery wont charge up. I bought a new battery from dell and it ran off the power in the battery but wouldn't recharge at all. I also bought a new AC adapter but nothing changed. I noticed the battery light flashes four timers orange and once blue. The orange flashes are short and the blue lasts about twice as long as the organge flashes. Ive read somewhere that the flashes indicate overheating but it does this even when the laptop has not been used for days and i just plugged it in. Any help?

Hi NCShaffer,

You may try updating the system BIOS from the below link to see if that resolves the issue.

The link is: http://dell.to/1aAbIIO

If the issue is not resolved, you may have to replace the motherboard as well.

Please feel free to reply for any further assistance. I will be glad to assist you further.

I turned on adapter errors in the bios and it said the following:

"The AC adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.

The battery may not charge.

The system will adjust the performance..."

I have two adapters. One that came with the laptop and another that i bought. I bought the adapter from dell. Both return that error.

The harddrive is failing on the laptop and the os is stuck in startup repair. Basically, i cant fix the bios. I was waiting to see if i can fix this charging issue before replacing the harddrive and operating system.

Did you buy a Dell adapter or third party?  Does the system recognize the AC adapter or show it as "unknown"?

Check the BIOS setup - if the AC adapter is recognized but the battery is still flashing, and won't charge, you need a new battery.

If the adapter isn't recognized, and you've tried a new one, replace the DC jack board in the system.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard (the battery may need to be replaced as well).

Hi NCShaffer,

You may run the diagnostics to check if the hard drive is going bad or if it is the operating system.

You may try any of the following methods to run the diagnostics:

  • Press and the power button to initiate diagnostics.

Or

  • Shut down and restart the computer.
  • Press the F12 key immediately when the Dell logo appears. The Boot Device list appears.
  • Select Diagnostics and press the Enter key.

The issue with the adapter not being recognized may get resolved after updating the BIOS; however if that does not resolve the issue, you will have to replace the motherboard of the system.

The DC in port is a part of the motherboard.

Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist you further.

I bought a DC Power Board and i did that diagnostic and the harddrive failed. Order a hard drive too. Will replace the parts and upgrade the bios and post results.

I bought a new dell battery and it didnt work. Ill look into the dc board.

HI NCShaffer,

Once the hard drive is replaced and the operating system is installed, update the system BIOS and check the status for the adapter if it gets recognized in BIOS.

If not, you may consider replacing the motherboard.
