Hi changalrao t,

Please follow the below mentioned steps to isolate the problem:

  1. Remove all the external peripherals, the power cable and battery from the laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. This process will drain all the static energy from the computer.
  2. Switch on the laptop with only the battery plugged in, and check if the system switches on. Remove the battery and connect only the Ac adapter power cable, restart the system and check if the system is switching on. This is to check if it is a problem with battery or AC adapter.

Please check the AC-Adapter type in BIOS, to enter the BIOS screen, Switch on the computer, tap F2 at Dell logo to enter BIOS screen. If the AC-Adapter type is “None” or Unknown”, I would suggest you to update the latest BIOS for the system. Please follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Click this link: http://dell.to/17F08dH
  2. Enter the service tag of the system, and select Drivers and Downloads tab.
  3. Select the operating system from the dropdown and download the latest version of BIOS listed under BIOS category.
  4. Ensure to connect the AC Adapter to the computer and the Battery Charge is above 15%.
  5. Close all the open programs and make sure to save all the data in the computer.
  6. Run the previously downloaded BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to update the BIOS.
  7. Restart the computer when prompted.

Please check the functionality of the battery and post the results.

Hi changalrao t,

I am sorry for the inconvience; please let me know the exact issue which you’re facing with the laptop? In addition try releasing the static power and check if the system is booting. Follow the steps below.

Switch off the system; remove the battery, ac adapter and the power cable. Press and hold down the power button for thirty seconds to drain any excess static power. In case the issue persists, try running the hardware diagnostics to check if the hardware is working as designed.

Press the FN + Power which will initiate the hardware diagnostics. Let us know if there is any error code listed.

Hi changalrao t,

Please share if there is any light on the power button when you try to power on the system. Try releasing the residual charge from the system. Here are the steps:

  • Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer including the battery and AC Adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter. Try to restart the computer and check.
  • If the issue persists, try powering on the system with AC Adapter connected and battery removed.

If you are able to boot the system, run diagnostics to confirm hardware functionality. Here are the steps:

  • Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F12' key to enter the 'Boot Menu'.
  • Use the 'Down Arrow' key to highlight the 'Diagnostics' option. Press the 'Enter' key.
  • The diagnostics will begin. Please note the exact error message/code, if any appears on the screen.
  • You may also refer to the video on the link http://dell.to/17DCL0R for more information.

Also, if the system is able to boot to BIOS, please check the 'AC Adapter Type' under 'Main' tab. Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F2' key to enter the 'BIOS Setup'. If you are able to boot to Windows, check the battery health through Battery Health Meter.  You can access Battery Health Meter by going to Control Panel-> Hardware and Sounds-> Power Options-> Dell Battery Meter-> Battery Health.

Please remove the service tag from public view for security reasons.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi changalrao t,

Please follow the below mentioned steps to identify if the AC Adapter is faulty or not:

  • Connect the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Check Power LED indicator on AC Adapter (without plugging into the Notebook).
  • If LED on the AC adapter is not lit (when unplugged from notebook), reseat brick and cable. Still if the LED is not lit, try using an alternate good known AC Adapter as the current one has gone faulty.
  • If LED on the AC Adapter goes off only after connecting to notebook, then it is possible that the Motherboard or DC-In port has gone faulty and hardware replacement may be required.

Now in regards to the system not powering on and no light on the power button, try connecting a working AC Adapter to the system and check if it powers on or not. Then it either the Motherboard or the DC-IN jack which is faulty and need replacement.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

hello,

I am also having the same problem with my inspiron 17r turbo which is just one month old. I also called dell support and talked to the dell representative and he told that there is a fault in the battery so he replaced my battery within 24 hours.

But, after replacing the battery my laptop is giving the same message (battery charging is temporarily disabled) and the problem is not resolved. And i also checked my charger with another laptop and it is working fine.

I am sure that it is not a battery problem.may be there is a fault in motherboard.

Now Dell representative is saying that there is a problem in charging port but i dont think so as the laptop is working fine on charger supply.

dell representative will call me tomorrow so, i will tellyou what he will say..

Hi Simran,

Please share the exact system model as there are various variants available under Dell Inspiron 17R series. Also, share the 'Operating System' installed. You may right in saying the it might be an issue with the motherboard, but before replacing that lets try and isolate the issue. Try releasing the residual charge from the system, here are the steps:

  • Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer including the battery and AC Adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter. Try to restart the computer and check.

If the issue still persist, try using an alternate good known AC Adapter to check functionality. Also, update the BIOS of the system. Here are the steps:

  • Click on the link: http://dell.to/15qqGcr
  • Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system.
  • You will find the BIOS under 'BIOS' tab.
  • Download and update the BIOS following the onscreen instructions.
  • Restart the system and check functionality.

If the issue still persist, it is most likely that the DC-In jack or the motherboard has gone faulty. First part recommended to be replaced is the DC-In jack and then the motherboard. If required AC Adapter might also be replaced. Hope this helps.

Do share the results of the repairs. Please reply if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help you.

Thanks for replying DELL-Saharsh K,
My laptop is inspiron 17r turbo (7720) and i am using windows 7 on it. I
tested my charger with xps l502x and it is working fine. I also tried
another charger on 17r turbo but its showing the same message
I am afraid of updating the bios because 17r turbo 7720 has issues in detecting the gpu after bios update as given in the thread,
