Best memory Upgrade For Inspiron 1545

Greetings,

I am Scot.

I have an INSPIRON 1545 laptop purchased in January 2010 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I would like to upgrade the RAM.

The INSPIRON SETUP GUIDE, page 59 under MEMORY  says:

Capacities: 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB

Possible Memory Configurations: 1GB, 1.5GB, 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB

I would like to have 8GB (2 4GB Modules). But DELL only lists Part No: A6993649 2GB Certified RAM module for my computer.

I am confused. Can I have 8GB of RAM or only 4GB?

Thanks,

Scot

It will take 2X4 =8G.  That said, it's DDR-2 memory, which is quite expensive these days (relative to DDR-3, which is more widely used now), so unless you really need the 8G, it may not be a wise investment -- you will not be able to reuse the RAM in any future system.

Ejn63,
Thanks,
So what your saying is, my laptop uses outdated memory (DDR-2) which could not be used in any potential new computer that I might purchase in the future because all new computers use DDR-3.
OK, I wouldn’t mind spending a little for my old INSPIRON but  DELL part no: A6993649 (2GB Certified RAM) is only 2G per module. It’s $ 54.99 EA, so $ 100.00  gets me 4G. But I already have 3G. Could I use a different brand and get perhaps 6G. I wouldn’t mind spending a little. After all, a couple hundred to boost my old INSPIRON is cheaper than a new computer.
Again, thanks I appreciate the input.

Dear Mr. enj63,

Thank you very much for the web-link.

I have looked at it and it looks like something I might be able to use. I will continue to study this problem but you have given me some much needed clarification.

I will consider this question to be answered.

Again Thanks,
Scot
