It will take 2X4 =8G. That said, it's DDR-2 memory, which is quite expensive these days (relative to DDR-3, which is more widely used now), so unless you really need the 8G, it may not be a wise investment -- you will not be able to reuse the RAM in any future system.
So what your saying is, my laptop uses outdated memory (DDR-2) which could not be used in any potential new computer that I might purchase in the future because all new computers use DDR-3.
OK, I wouldn’t mind spending a little for my old INSPIRON but DELL part no: A6993649 (2GB Certified RAM) is only 2G per module. It’s $ 54.99 EA, so $ 100.00 gets me 4G. But I already have 3G. Could I use a different brand and get perhaps 6G. I wouldn’t mind spending a little. After all, a couple hundred to boost my old INSPIRON is cheaper than a new computer.
I have looked at it and it looks like something I might be able to use. I will continue to study this problem but you have given me some much needed clarification.
