Thank you! Solved my problem too. Under A12 the battery was not charging and was at 0%. Dwll utility for A09 was not allowing to re-write BIOS if battery below 10%, neither in GUI in Windows, nor under DOS.
But in DOS like this:
.EXE /forceit
it worked and the battery started charging straight away!
Don't put Vista on a 5-6 year old laptop. Laptops back then were already a bit 'lower powered', and then putting Vista on it will really make it painfully slow.
There's nothing wrong with XP on a 5-6 year old laptop. If you want to modernize, you could maybe try Windows 7, or just go with Ubuntu 9.04 or so.
tried to install windows 7 on but as the problem is.. my bios is to old for it. says the windows 7 upgrade adviser. and i have ubuntu installed too, dual boot. my laptop has a core duo and 3GB ram and isn't really slow. it opens Microsoft Office word 2007 in 0,8 seconds. so wouldn't it could handle vista or windows 7?
and i don't care if my laptop breaks down (: it's about 5-6 years old and i bought ram for it. and now i want to upgrade to vista on it. but it wont im stuck with XP because my bios is too old. my school is providing laptops so even if this one breaks down. i'll still have one.
Either 7 or Vista will be slower than XP on hardware that old - only consider 7 if you have at least 2G of RAM in the system.
As above, recognize that flashing the BIOS without a battery is skydiving without a parachute -- if the flash goes awry, you're out a mainboard (or system).
:^/ Ever notice how every year computer hardware gets faster and faster, yet Microsoft Windows doesn't? Every time out, they find new ways to use up all of your processor's horsepower and hard drive's real estate. So, don't stick newer Windows on older hardware, please.

If you can't afford the battery, then you certainly can't afford the new mainboard that would be required if the BIOS flash goes awry.
DO NOT flash the BIOS without a fully charged, working battery!

It's always better to flash with battery!
Here's the full list of the switches.
Don't shoot yourself in the foot with it.
