Blue Screen of Death error code 50 and 8e

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running windows xp service pack 3 and I have had the BSOD pop up 2 times now, once yesterday with error code 8E and once today with error code 50. I have done dell diagnostics on it and it comes up with: error code: 2000-0146 Harddrive 1- self test log contains previous errors. the DST short test failed. I have also ran a chec disk on my hd said it was complete with no errors so i ran dell diagnostics again and the same error code popped up (2000-0146). I have removed the hard drive and put it back in still same error code. Does this mean my hard drive is going to crash or what? Is there a way that I can fix this?
