Bluetooth mouse? anyone try the Logitech MX900 Bluetooth Optical Mouse

I have a Microsoft BT mouse that works just fine with the internal BT so I would expect the Logitech would do the same.  It is very handy having a completely cordless mouse, however (always a 'however'...), their battery life is terrible.

Using the highest mAh rechargeable AA batteries that I could find I still get only around 3 weeks of normal usage between charges with the MS mouse.  I also have the wireless/USB version of the Logitech MX900 on my 'desktop' i8100, and I can get barely 2 weeks out of it between recharges.  The main reason for this is that they never completely turn off (and there is no button to manually turn them off).

Ergonomically I like the MS mouse a bit better as it fits my hand a bit more comfortably; although it is a tad more bulky.  The Logitech does have 3 additional programmable buttons that are lacking on the MS mouse, and I find myself missing the 2 scroll buttons especially when I'm using the MS.

So, besides dealing with changing/recharging batteries every couple of weeks, I don't have any other major complaints.  The MS BT mouse takes a second or two to connect sometimes, but that is a pretty minor issue in my book.

I just wish that BT stereo headphones were a possibility...

Yeah I have the MX700 for my desktop and I think it is the best mouse I have owned to date (very accurate and smooth). Guess I'll try the MX900 and post back.

Second that. And have a greatest battery life. In fact it's sold with rechargable ones and hub also acts as a charger. New MX900 is exact copy of MX700 but with bluetooth technology. I placed my order for new bluetooth keyboard/mouse duo as soon as I've heard about them (more than a month ago). Unfortunatelly they are not available yet. May be by the end of Nov.

Bought one of these this week and finally had a chance to play around with it a little bit tonight. Buyer Beware... It works well when the hub is plugged into the USB port while using the built in dell bluetooth stack but once you try to use it without the hub plugged in it doesn't work well at all. Doesn't remember settings, sometimes the mouse isn't discovered at boot, and the settings aren't available in the driver application if the hub/charger isn't plugged in.

Looks like I may be returning this one. I love my MX700... Trying to get where I could have it with me all the time without lugging around the hub and having to plug-in but until they've got the driver situation a little more worked out I'd steer clear of the MX900.

I got my MX900 last week.   I have notice the same problem with the drivers.  Without the hub plug in, it uses a standard microsoft hid mouse driver.  So you only have the basic fuctions to set.  You can't reprogram your scroll buttons and back n forward buttons.    After I played with the settings a little bit in the bluetooth advanced configuration.   It is discovering the mouse when I bootup 9 times at of 10.   If it don't pick it up right away.  I will just toggle the radio signal off n on.  At first it would not remember my settings on pointer speed.  But now it is all the time.   I think Logitech needs to step up here and make some drivers that will work directly with any bluetooth card and not just there hub.   I use the hub on my desktop so I can have bluetooth on it.   I was messing around with it yesterday and was able to transfer files back in forth through bluetooth file transfer.   With the minor driver problem I am keeping my mx900.  It is really nice to be portable moving around with the laptop and not having something plug into the back hanging around.   Also I found ecost.com having the best deal at 75.99 with free shipping.   All though they get you with 3.95 shipping and handling fee.

I bought an MX900 without reading it was not supported for Win98SE.

First it refused to install, then I launched manually the BT installation program from the CD. Then I get a very strange situation: no bluetooth device is detected by the Widcomm program but the mouse works perfectly as a MS HDI mouse (only the forward button does not works).

Nevertheless, nor my Palm T nor my Siemmens S-55 detect a new bluetooth device.

=> Very strange, how can the mouse works and at the same time the others bluetooth devices do not detect anything???

Any idea?

André
