Boot device not found
I have a inspiron m511r, about a month ago I started to have problems with my boot device, thinking it was just a minor glitch since if I went into the select boot device screen, ut would begin startup normally. Now it is a game of chanve to even get my computer to get it to boot up to even the sign in page of windows 7. And even when I do get it booted up, it has a chance to just randomly crash at any given time... even in powering down. As soon as these weird booting problems appeared my computer began making clicking sounds on boot up or just before a crash. It has gotten to the point in which I can't even run a boot viral scan on my computer since it just won't boot up to begin with. Any and all help is appreciated... hopefully it will be a simple fix and not require me to get a new hdd or boot driver device.

It says there is not a harddrive in either the fixed setup, or diagnostics.... everything else but that passes with flying colors

Hi ColinDaly,
Please check if the HDD is detected in the BIOS. Restart the system and tap F2 key every two seconds at dell logo to open BIOS. Check what is listed for fixed HDD.
Also I recommend you to run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system. To run diagnostics restart the system and at the Dell logo tap the F12 key every two seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system which may take around 5 minutes. Please reply to this post in case of any error message.

Hi ColinDaly,
If it is a loose connection, reseating the HDD should resolve the issue. Please find the link for the service manual:

Please check for the HDD in the BIOS and also run diagnostics to check if the system is detected the HDD and revert.

Same problem. It won't let me boot now, and it let me boot at school today. Diagnostic says it won't connect to hard drive
It's a DELL Latitiude E5430
I'm in set up and boot sequence. Looking for any guidance on how to get my windows to be able to to open.
Thanks,
Chrisyt
