System Model: Inspiron 1525

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium

I don't know if it will work in 7 or not. Open the Sound properties Recording tab

If you don't see the words "Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec" Install the Sigmatel R218148 Vista driver by using Vista compatibility mode in 7. Download and unzip the driver but cancel the installation process when it begins. Go to the c:\Dell\Drivers folder and open the folder named R218148. Find the setup.exe file and right click on it. Select the Properties. Find the compatibility tab and select Vista.

If you don't see "Microphone Array" after that, right click in the white area of the Sound properties recording tab and select 'show disables/disconnected devices" and look for it.

If you mean the mics at the top of the display try installing the Creative Labs Webcam driver -- those mic are part of the optional webcam. Again use Vista compatibility mode. There is another mic in the base. I don't know how you select that one specifically.

An alternative audio driver you can use is the IDT R226903 Win 7 audio driver. It is meant for the Studio models but has been known to work on a 1525 with 7.

It would not work with the Sigmatel driver at all? I don't know what else to suggest.

I have the same problem with the Dell Latitude E6410. Built-in microphone not working.

I'm using Windows XP Professional.

Can someone propose a solution for this?

Open the Sounds & Audio Devices properties.

It should say "IDT" under Playback and Recording.

Click on the Volume button in the recording section to open the Recording Control dialog..Click the Options menu then select Properties. Put a check next to anything related to microphones. Again under the Options menu, select Advanced Controls. Now look on the Recording Control for a way to select the mic array. Click on the Advanced button to see what options are there.

The mics at the top of the display try are part of the optional webcam so make sure you ordered that feature. Windows XP does not have the webcam driver so you have to install it: Creative Labs Webcam driver.

If you installed XP since the time you got the laptop from the factory, make sure that you have installed the Dell System Software and the Intel Chipset software. If you had not installed those previously do so now and then reinstall the IDT audio driver and the webcam driver. All are on the E6410 drivers & download page
