C400 keyboard and touchpad fail after Logitech Wireless install

I installed a Logitech Cordless MX Duo using the PS/2 port (my first mistake). After re-boot the touch pad is gone and the built-in keyboard is gone. Now the only way to communicate with the computer is with this or some other USB keyboard and/or pointing device.

How can I get the original keyboard and touchpad back?

Deleting the devices does no good. System will not detect them on re-boot. Re-installing the touchpad drivers from Dell fails with "serious error". A manual "detect new hardware" fails to find the devices.

I'm stumped

I am having the same problem and have been unable to resolve.  Any help would be appreciated.

Did you install the software for this wireless stuff. If so uninstall it. This might not solve the problem though, so you might have to reinstall the OS.

Yes, I already got rid of all traces of the wireless stuff but this did not solve the problem. The Logitech site does talk about this issue with respect to the touchpad but not the keyboard. Apparently the wireless installation procedure overwrites the driver information for the local inut devices with its own drivers. It seems that I would be to place the correct drivers back in their correct location then edit the registry. Problem is I don't know what the correct drivers are and Dell does not supply them independently.

lost_arrow posted a fix on the thread:

Latitude Keyboard Touchpad Pointing device does not work

The thread title contained some slashes, but you should be able to find the thread easily.

Give it a try ... :-)
