CPU upgrades options for Dell inspiron 9300

Yes, I know its a old computer however I wanted to know what cpu I could use to better optimize the computer. I also was wondering if I could use Intel core 2 duo because my BIOS detects that it can use dual. If not can I use a Intel Pentium dual processor. Or even a list of supported processors. Also is their any processor I can use to get 64 bit of windows 7.

The three fastest CPUs it'll take are the T7200, T7400 and T7600 CPUs.  Given the low (2G) RAM ceiling, it's not worth a 64-bit version of Windows -- with less than 4G, the 32-bit version makes more sense as the kernel footprint is smaller.

Which on would be the fastest for playing games like minecraft since its a low-end game but I wanna get at least 40fps on a big server. I have the ATI mobility radeon x300 card but I sometimes get up too 90fps on a simple world. Also is their a option for 3.0GHz

What are the T7x00 CPUs, and are they even really compatible with the Inspiron 9300? My understanding is that the best CPU you can install in the 9300 is the Pentium M 780, which is a single core CPU. I'm pretty sure that the 9300 doesn't support dual core or core 2 duo CPUs.

I upgraded my 9300 from the M 760 to the M 780 and noticed significant increases in performance. The Windows Experience Index subscore for the processor rose from 3.7 to 4.0 with the M 780. Overall latency also was dramatically reduced.

I have 2 GB of memory and I installed Windows 7 32 bit successfully on my 9300. It works great. Also, I replaced the HDD with an SSD, which boosted performance even more. The WEI subscore for the primary hard drive rose from 4.4 to 5.9 with the SSD.

So, I'd suggest going with the M 780 CPU and also swapping your hard drive with an SSD. Careful of the SSD's size, though. The BIOS only supports so much. I have a 128 GB SSD, which is I think the best you can do in terms of size.
