Can not boot from SSD placed in the Optical Disk Drive using a Caddy : Dell Inspiron 3542
My Laptop is Dell Inspiron 3542(Service Tag: 3Y1M912). I replaced the Optical Disk Drive of my laptop by a SSD using a caddy. Caddy and SSD working just fine as I can access my SSD when I boot from my primary(internal) HDD.
Whenever I try to boot from my SSD, it does not get detected by Dell BIOS! I tried all the BIOS mode(Legacy, UEFI) and tried all possible combination of boot priorities with no luck. Even I tried different OS(Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Linux Mint), that did not work either.
I suppose it is a bug of the BIOS otherwise Dell does not want to support this feature that is why they turned it off permanently. FYI, I'm using the BIOS with updatte A06. I know there is an A08 BIOS update, I read many people are facing serious problem with it so I didn't tried to update the BIOS till now. Is it possible for me to boot from my SSD?
