Cannot Install Intel Rapid Start Technology Utility on Inspiron 7220 17R SE

Hello,

I tried to install the Intell Rapid Start Technology Utility on my Inspiron 7220 17R SE running WIndows 7 and was told that my system did not have the minimum requirements to run this application. Yet, it is listed as "recommended".

My computer was recently reloaded with Windows 7 after an unfortunate mishap. I am updating all the drivers and software. I also notice that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology is very slow to start on startup. Is this normal? Does this have anything to do with the Difficulties I am having with the Rapid Start Technology application?

Please help.

Thanks!

Hi Hypathia,

First, I would like to know before reinstalling the Windows 7 on the system did you de-accelerate the mSATA drive.

Also, I would like to know if the SATA operation in the BIOS is selected to ‘AHCI’ or ‘Intel Rapid Storage Technology’.

Thankyou for responding so quickly!

Windows 7 was reinstalled at your repair depot,  so I dont know if the mSATA drive was decelerated.

I do know that the SATA operation in the BIOS is set to "Rapid Storage Technology".

I do not have a Windows 7 disc to work with . . . Just backups.

Thanks.

Hi Hypathia,

It seems like the mSATA drive is not de accelerated. I would like you to follow the steps mentioned below for issue resolution.

  1. Boot to Bios (F2)
  2. Change SATA operation to AHCI
  3. Save settings and Exit
  4. As soon as the system boots up tap the ‘F8’ key to go into Advanced options
  5. Choose option Repair my computer
  6. Wait for 3 – 5 minutes on the black screen until the system shows up recovery options
  7. On System Recovery option click next
  8. On user name / password option click next (if password has been set for primary user please enter the right password)
  9. On System Recovery Option screen ------>Select Command Prompt
  10. At Command prompt type in Diskpart
  11. Type LIST DISKà You should see 2 Disks listed like below
  12. Note down the right DISK number for the next steps. On some systems mSATA HDD would be either Disk 1 or Disk 0

  • Type SELECT DISK 0(Whichever is msata drive)

It should say DISK 0 is selected

  • Type Clean

This should clean the msata HDD

  • Type OFFLINE Disk

This should make the Disk Offline

  1. Type EXIT
  2. RESTART
  3. On Restart go into BIOS (F2) and change SATA back to Intel Smart Response Technology
  4. Click save and exit  and Restart
  5. Option Rom should pop up – Press Ctrl + I
  6. Press R to disable acceleration and 6 to Exit
  7. Boot into Windows Normally.
  8. Download the Intel rapid storage technology driver and enable the acceleration.
  9. Please follow the link below. When the page comes up please put in the service tag of your computer. Then go ahead and download the Intel rapid storage technology driver under ‘Serial ATA’ section, after selecting the operating system to windows 8 from the link below.

Hello,

My apologies for taking so long to respond. I tried following these instructions. They worked fine until after I changed the SATA back to Intel Smart Response Technology. I could not get the Option Rom to pop up. I tried to install the rapid storage technology anyway, and received the message that my computer "did not meet the minimum requirements for installation" of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

Is there another way I can disable acceleration?

Thanks!

My computer will now not start at all. It just keeps running through the various repair routines over and over, showing numerous errors, but never actually loading Windows.

I have THREE different back-ups and none of them will work, so I am unable to restore my system to its factory settings. The windows repair disk also does not work.

I give up. I have sunk enough time and cash into this beast in an effort to have it run the way it is supposed to - it's time to pack it up and dump it in my basement along with all my other old, outdated PC's waiting for the journey to the recycling depot. The sad thing? I haven't finished paying for it yet, so I will be without a working computer for the foreseeable future. With my long-awaited vacation coming up - I can't tell you how frustrating this is!

I have owned PC's all my life - beginning with an IBM PC Jr when I was 13. I have never had the problems with any computer that I have had with this DELL. Lesson learned. NEVER buy a DELL. And next time, I will make sure that I buy original installation disks with my computer - this factory installed software crap never works.

Hi,

I've purchased Dell 7720 17R SE and it started showing black screen when I switched on.  I've restored to factory settings. But now the Intel Rapid Start Technology is not installing on windows 8 64bit. It displays "This computer does not meet the requirements for installing the software " . The notebook boots slowly. Please suggest any solution for this. Is it possible to add SSD of higher memory to this notebook.

I had the same issue with my laptop.

#1You must have a SSD drive installed in your laptop

#2 You must make sure before you install the OS that the "Rapid Start Technology"  setting is configured on correctly in your bios.

Please use the following link for steps to configure Intel Smart Response Technology in the bios: http://dell.to/TUV9hB

#2 Install the OS to factory condition. Windows will install the appropriate drivers  to work with your bios configuration

#4 Once on the desktop. Create a Hibernation partition for UEFI mode systems on the SSD drive using Diskpart. For a good How-to on creating a hibernation partition on a UEFI system see the link below

http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/rapid_start_technology_user_guide_for_uefi1.pdf

#5 Restart the computer to ensure that the bios registers the new partition

#6 install the Rapid Start software

Once I configured the bios and hibernation partition correctly the Rapid start software installed without a problem. I now boot cold from 5.6 sec.

I recently upgraded my existing 32GB msata to 120gb msata. But I am unable to configure/reinstall the Intel Rapid Start. I am currently getting the following pop up after booting to OS desktop:

Also if I try to reinstall the Intel Rapid Start, I get a pop up saying 'The system does not meet the requirements".

Kindly let me know the steps to configure my system to use the 120gb msata.

Regards,

Sanjay
