Cannot Perform CHKDSK

Hi,

Any idea why I can't perform chkdsk on startup? It should run automatically after I set it up and restart. But then, my laptop just boot normally.

I'm using Vostro 1520, Windows XP Pro 32-bit.

You should be able to go to My Computer. Right click on the hard drive and click properties, then click on the tools tab and click on error checking and run it from there. If not then you can press F8 at boot and select to boot into safe mode command prompt only. then run chkdsk /r from the dos prompt.

Can I cut in? I also have that problem. Tryed it as you stated on a XPS-1530 (no go).  Than tryed it on my XPS-420 still no go. Both Vista SP2. Tryed both ways to run.

Try...

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, then left click run as administrator. Type

chkdsk /r          (space between the k and /)

Hit enter. Answer with a Y.

Restart your computer.

Thanks, I tryed that this am. It still didn't do a chkdsk. So I tryed the other way again (start-Computer-right click etc.) But this time I powered computer off then pushed button to power on rather than doing a restart. It ran chkdsk for 2.5 Hr. All ok
