Cannot log onto Inspiron 6000, PLEASE HELP
My laptop froze with a harware error screen and had to be shut down. Since that time when it restarts, a 1 inch sqare box appears with an X inside a red circle and an okay box ... any key causes the computer to log off and save settings only to return to the same opening screen with the box.
I am able to open up in safe mode and have performed disc scans, etc.
When I try to run system restore, I get a message stating: "System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again."
Restarting the computer only takes you back to the screen where the X box appears with no way to navigate around it.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Reading through some of the other postings, I did see the Diagnostics (F12) and I am trying that now ...
I will repost with results/questions/update after the scan is complete.

There is no problem getting on in safe mode and running applications that way. I opened all devices in device manager, there were no exclamation points.
When the system crashed (went to the blue error screen), I was sending an email from yahoo and nothing else was open other an another Internet Explorer window. The error message said if this was the first time the message had appeared to restart the computer and it should restart normally. However, now I cannot get beyond the blue welcome screen before the X box appears requiring kit any key to move forward, then it saves your settings and starts over and when you click the desired user (there is only 1 to choose from), the X box returns and the process begins again.

The other alternative is to scan with an updated antivirus program, but if you weren't updated before, it can be a nightmare to get one running effectively if the system is already infected.
