Do you have an Anti Virus program installed ? Did you scan the HD ?
If so what info did you get ,have you got the name of the virus.
If not the do Ctrl+Alt+Del and check the running processes .
Using another computer check each of these ( just google them on by one ) and see if you can find one that is a *rouge* application. Kill that process and see if you can go online. Norton and other sites will do an online scan , but if your on a dial up that may be too slow !
If you can find out what virus it is , go and find a fix Norton site has these , download the fix on another computers and burn a disk or USB drive it to your lapper .
Else buy a Norton / McAfee CD and scan if from that , this may not work as the definitions will have to be updated first .
Worst case , a USB caddy for a laptop drive will allow you to remove the HD from the laptop and scan it from another computer.
But it should not come to that :-)
