Cannot switch user

Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming, Win 10.

I am unable to switch user. When I try, either by logging in or switching, I get a blank blue screen, no mouse and no obvious way to exit.

This is a real pain as I need to share my laptop with my wife!

RE: Cannot switch user

Hi PNB2017,

What is the exact system model? What is the current OS version installed on the system?

Are both the accounts in concern local accounts or Microsoft accounts?

If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://bit.ly/1JEw2ov

Restart the system and check if it boots fine into safe mode / safe mode with networking - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c

Enable the built in admin account and check if it works fine - http://bit.ly/2pqXQ1p

Create a new Microsoft account and check if required.

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

RE: Cannot switch user

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the update.

Have you tested if the system boots fine into safe mode and the built in admin account?

It must have been such that the second account possibly is corrupted and hence it is not working. If you state that the second account has never worked, then the profile itself must be corrupt.

Try creating a new secondary account with limited rights or with admin rights if required and check if it works fine - http://bit.ly/2qoFy22

Let us know if you have any other queries.

RE: Cannot switch user

Never tried a safe mode boot, not sure how I would do that as there are no prompts on the reboot screen!

Tried deleting and then creating a new local account and......... it worked !!!!

Thanks for your help.

RE: Cannot switch user

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the update.

Glad to hear the issue has been resolved.

For safe mode - I have provided a link to an article which describes how to boot to safe mode.

I shall archive the case at this point.

Should you need any info / help, contact us anytime.
