Casing in bad shape

hello, I recently bought an Inspiron 6400 and I've found the casing to be really delicate. it has some small scratches and it has lost its shine in some places. it looks kinda old. I've looked for creams or sprays or any kind of product that can hide these scratches and give it the appearance of a new laptop. Mac has a product called Ice Creme v2, but I was told by one of the Tech guys that: "Unfortunately, your laptop uses a painted plastic housing which cannot be repaired with any type of polish. This type of material requires sanding and repainting to properly repair.
A polish-type refinisher would simply make the scratches look larger and worse."
Does Dell sell some kinda product like the one I need or is there any way I can repair it at home? I will buy some kinda protection later on, but for now I would like to fix the casing.
I welcome any suggestions you might have. thank you very much.

Unfortunately if the scratches are in the paint, all those products will do is remove more paint.
