Changing Motherboard when using windows xp pro!

Hi fellow members,

I have recently received a replacement board from dell technical
support,
had no problem fitting it myself, but the fun came when trying
to boot in xp again, the dreaded activation window stating that
I have changed the motherboard and cannot continue.

would anybody help me out with
sourcing the tools to get round this issue to let xp boot after
a major hardware change/change service/asset tag.having lost my last disk

Thanks all!

Try calling the Microsoft Product Activation Center - they should be able to get you set up with an authorization code to allow you to continue the installation with the new hardware.

Calling Microsoft to re-activate is easy.  I build, and upgrade all the time, and have probably called Microsoft  a dozen times.  Unless you have a hacked version of XP this shouldn't be an issue.

yeah i have done also, but its just a pain, and i dont see why customer should pay over the odds for a operating system and have to re-activate and be restricted like this.

I dont use windows xp (thank god! :D), use linux personally, but i was just wandering if there was a time saving option.

Windows XP is wierd when it comes to activation.  Sometimes I've done a complete rebuild of a computer and it never asks for re-activation, then other times, I can do a driver change and it will.  Doesn't make much sence.
