Changing the Service Tag with Asset
Have a Latitude D600 with an incorrect Service Tag. Believe it was one were I replaced the Motherboard and had to manually enter it. Anyway, I entered it incorrectly. I've tried to use the Asset program, but it won't let me change the Service Tag.
I get the following message, "Error: Cannot change the Asset/Service Tag. Please ensure the tag is in a correct format, and the SETUP password is disabled". I put in the correct Service Tag, from the bottom of the laptop, and I've looked in the BIOS for the "SETUP" password, but I don't have any passwords on the BIOS.
Any help would be great! :)

This downloaded program includes SVCTAG.EXE as well as the BIOS and Diagnostics. You use it in DOS to delete a Service Tag and then reset the correct one. Asset.com is strictly a one time shot for setting a Service Tag, and if you get it wrong, you are stuck unless you have this program available

Use the command line:
asset /s xxxxx
...where xxxxx is the service tag number you want it to be. The "/s" switch is sometimes undocumented.

When I use svctag.exe it brings up the EEPROM Erase Program and gives me the error saying it can't allocate memory to save flash (failure at 449)
Somewhere in the life of this laptop someone set its service tag in the BIOS to "FIELD" all I am trying to do is change it back to it's proper service tag number. I have not changed the board - although I have replaced the keyboard, but I don't think that should pose a problem.
