Computer Restarting when Lid Closed
I've got an Inspiron 1525 running Vista and pretty much anytime I close the lid (which should induce hibernation) my computer restarts itself, rewarms up and pulls up the new sign in page when I open it again. Is this a hardware/software issue or is there something I can change to keep it from doing this?
Thanks
Mary

Your computer is not rebooting. It goes to the sign in page after waking from standby. It is an option in "power options" and can be turned off there so that it stays at the desktop after waking from standby.

No, it is actually restarting itself. If I close the lid and wait I can hear the restart chimes (the windows opening theme sound) and then when I reopen it, and sign in, any open program was improperly closed.

yes i have same problem. and yes it does restart, why would we say it restarts if it saved our data when we closed the lid? this may be a problem with a corrupt hard drive

Did you try going into the power settings in Control Panel, and checking the 'what happens when I close the lid' settings?

sleep mode, and it only restarts on occasion, but still most of the time
