Dear,

I have the same thing happened to me on Jan 30, 2015 and till now no one contacted me from the technical support to fix the problem to me or to give me a real solutions.

I am using i7 processor for 12 months and the laptop purchased before 18 months (warranty expired).

I was using dell for the previous 11 years but now and after this problem and the quite/calm behavior of the technical support, I may change my mind and Dell will get one customer less. I am temporary using different brand now hoping Dell can help to solve my issue with more economical solution.

I got my laptop checked from 2 outside computer specialist and both of them said it is motherboard and the cost not less than CAD 450.

That does not sound good. I think I should be under warranty though since this is only about 7 months. I will be upset if I don't hear from someone.

If you are under warranty, call Dell. The problem is a bad DC input socket either on the power board. The blue light not staying on is probably because of a short circuit. This is a common problem with all laptops because it is easy to break internal connections if the power cord is pulled or kicked. Be aware that if the laptop looks like it has been dropped or abused, Dell may not cover the problem, as it could be considered "accidental damage". Dell has accidental damage coverage available for all laptops. If you buy an expensive laptop, you should get this as well as extended warranty coverage for as many years you think you will keep the laptop. If you have a cheaper laptop, the extra insurance is probably not worth the expense.

try these:

1. removed the Battery and AC Adapter then press the power button for about 20 seconds and try to boot the system

2. Can you confirm if the issue is happening on both Battery and AC Adapter?

Can you check if the AC Adapter is not loose and if it has light when it is plugged in to the DC In Port?

Can you try a known good AC Adapter and Battery to test with the system?

Can you check if there's physical damage on the DC In Port?

*-* if none will work, mobo and dc in port need to be replaced

I got in touch with tech support and they said it sounds like the motherboard. Thankfully I'm still well under the year warranty threshold.

Consider extend the warranty as it seems the quality of dell laptops is dropping.
