Just to clarify a bit I dont mean its just being sluggish.  When I click on the close X on the top right, it takes a minute or two (literally) for the program to close.  Its taking forever for microsoft word to open also, all programs are like this.  I'm on my PC at home because her 5150 cant even really navigate online to get to these messageboards to put up the post for help.  I'm at a loss, thanks for the help!!

By any chance did you download and install sp2 as some folk have complained of their PCs be much lower with it installed.

You ought to empty the Temp folder of your web browser, then check for spyware.

Windows XP latest patches and fixes were released as SP2 (Service Pack 2) recently.  If you have Automatic Updates enabled it did it for you, otherwise you went to the Windows Update site and installed it.

She has the automatic updates.  Is there a way to check and see if this is the problem?  How would I go about doing that.  Thanks!!

Well, first thing I did was delete the temp files.  She has a spywear blocker so I dont think thats it....

What is a sp2?  I'm not a computer buff, so not sure what that is and how to "fix" it.  Thanks for the suggestions so far!!

Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Look for Windows XP SP2 install and remove it.  You will loose the safeguards doing that.  But it will tell you if that is slowing it down.  You can always go to the Windows Update site and redo the SP2 install.

Well I just deleted the servicepack from her computer.  I'll let ya know if its any faster for her, she's taking it for a "testdrive".

It said that will take away some securities, if she runs antivirus regularly, will she be OK?

Yes, but there were also some security holes in Microsoft software that SP2 patches.  Some here had the slowdown but when they removed it then reloaded it the notebook ran fine.  You can research SP2 on the Microsoft site, and also on these forums and also read up on the Software - Windows XP forum and/or post there for more specific help.
