Computer spontaneously restarts after shutting down.

For Dell XPS 12, running Windows 8.1. Sometimes I "shut down" my computer, but after several minutes it restarts on its own. When it restarts, the hard disk is operating and the keyboard lights up, but the screen is blank and the keyboard is unresponsive. I have to do a hard re-start by holding down the power button for several seconds. Unfortunately, this has happened several times when I have put the laptop into a computer bag, and I when I get the computer out it is really, really hot from being on inside the bag. Any tips on how to solve this one?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

Please update the BIOS and video drivers and observe the system. Also disable all the power options if any to NEVER.

Search for power options in windows and go to advanced power settings and change the options.

Simultaneously please find this link might be useful.

I looked at the link you provided. While interesting, it doesn't address my problem. I'm having trouble with "shut down". I "shut down" the computer, and then find it doesn't properly shut down and/or comes back on. Most recently it was the former. I "shut down" and screen goes blank, keyboard light stays on, but computer is unresponsive. This is the same thing that happens when it spontaneously re-starts. The event log reads:

Error: "The previous system shutdown at 10:28:25 PM on ‎2/‎27/‎2016 was unexpected."

Then the next error message reads:

Critical: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. (27-Feb-16 10:36:51 PM)

I invoked shut down in the conventional way, and it shouldn't have been unexpected. This is strange behavior. The Bios is A08 which a Dell repairmen installed a few months ago.

Any clues?
